What are you reading right now?

Terri Reed here, wondering what you're reading right now?
Me, I'm reading CAUGHT by Harlan Coben. I'm only about a fourth of the way in and already I'm itching to find out who did what! Harlan has a masterful way of reeling the reader in with his complex plots, sympathetic characters and sharp wit. I've yet to be disappointed by one of his books. I first discovered Harlan when he spoke at a conference I attended back in the early 2000's. And I've been hooked ever since.

CAUGHT by Harlan Coben
17-year-old Haley McWaid is a good girl, the pride of her suburban New Jersey family, captain of the lacrosse team, headed off to college next year with all the hopes and dreams her doting parents can pin on her. Which is why, when her mother wakes one morning to find that Haley never came home the night before, and three months quickly pass without word from the girl, the community assumes the worst.

Wendy Tynes is a reporter on a mission, to identify and bring down sexual predators via elaborate—and nationally televised—sting operations. Working with local police on her news program Caught in the Act, Wendy and her team have publicly shamed dozens of men by the time she encounters her latest target. Dan Mercer is a social worker known as a friend to troubled teens, but his story soon becomes more complicated than Wendy could have imagined.

In a novel that challenges as much as it thrills, filled with the astonishing tension and unseen suburban machinations that have become Coben’s trademark, Caught tells the story of a missing girl, the community stunned by her loss, the predator who may have taken her, and the reporter who suddenly realizes she can’t trust her own instincts about this story—or the motives of the people around her.

So what are you reading? This inquiring mind wants to know!

I'm between books right now. And I love Harlan Coben! I especially love how he uses the complexity of his characters to build suspense. He's gifted at taking a very human character and setting him so close to the brink, you don't know if he will be the villain, the hero, or the victim.

I'm reading the Language of Trees (very different and still trying to decide if I like it) and Lady Killers by Lisa Scottoline.

Ramona, you are so right! And I love the reoccuring characters. Win is my favorite. Harlan has done such a fabulous job of building this character.

Dana, Interesting title for a book. I assume its not really about trees. LOL
And I too love Lisa Scottoline books. She incorporates such witty humor into the suspense plot and her characters are very well drawn.

Ooo! Caught sounds quite interesting. I probably should be reading a suspense right now, but instead I'm knee deep in Anne of Green Gables for the second time. I love LM Montgomery, and after a fascinating trip to Prince Edward Island this summer, I can't get enough of the red-headed orphan. She's such an amazing character--so well loved and yet full of mistakes and annoyances.

I'm reading an advanced copy of Marta Perry's "Murder in Plain Sight." Loving it, too. Marty really knows her suspense!

Oooh, gonna go download it to my phone. Love that Kindle app! I just started John Grisham's new book --and um...can't think of the title right off, but it's the one for sale at Sam's for $15.87! Anyway, can't wait to read Caught. Just finished Harry Kraus' book Perfect. I think I liked it. It was definitely interesting. Thanks for sending a new author my way, Terri.
