GREETINGS FROM A NEWBIE!

Hello, all! Liz Johnson here, author of The Kidnapping of Kenzie Thorn. I'm thrilled to be joining the Craftie Ladies of Suspense blog, and was super-honored to be invited to be part of a group with these other amazing authors. I'm a big fan of all of them.

I figured for my first post here, I'd start with a confession: I usually read the last page of a book first.

I know ... I know. I break the most important rule of reading a book. And I've been chided by purist readers for doing so. But for me, it just makes the reading more exciting. It makes me keep my eyes open for clues and hints that point to the ending.

Except for suspense novels.

I don't read the last page. I don't spoil the mystery. And I don't break the rules when it comes to reading suspense. I love the build up and the nail-biting tension. I love the way a good suspense novel keeps me up late into the night, unable to sleep until I know what happens!

That's why I love writing suspense. I know how it's going to end usually before I even begin writing. Of course, there are always surprises in writing, but I generally know where I'm headed, so it's like skipping ahead, without breaking the rules. :)

Are you a rule-breaker or a purist when it comes to reading? Why do you love suspense?

So thanks again for having me. It's such a pleasure joining these Craftie Ladies!

Feel free to stop by and visit me at http://www.lizjohnsonbooks.com/.

Hi Liz!

I'm basically a newbie to this blog too. I'm currently working on my first novel, which is a suspense, and while doing research I stumbled upon this blog. It's pretty cool. So this is my first comment on this "CRAFTIE Ladies of Suspense."

I do turn to the back of the book a lot. Like you, it just makes it more fun. I may find out who the bad guy is, which guy the girl picks, etc., but I don't know how. So it makes it more fun reading to see how things progressed to the climax.

But it's a habit I'm trying to break. Maybe it's just me, but trying to break the habit seems to raise the tension level in my reading. My fingers are itching to flip to the back and see, but I won't let myself. I've been able to resist for awhile now, but every now and again I give in. LOL it's fun!

Liz~~ welcome to the Craftie Ladies of Suspense blog. I'll be looking for more blogs from you and I'll have to check into THE KIDNAPPING OF KENZIE THORN. I went to your website and read the blurb about the book and it sounds really interesting.

Hey Liz!
WELCOME!!!!

Secondly, I definitely DO NOT read the last page first *wink* That's just wrong!

I haven't read your book, since it had already come out when I started reading the LI books. I have check for it everytime at our local used bookstore, though : ) It sounds really good!

Do you have another book scheduled?

Sasafras - keep up the writing! Good luck with your book. It's great to know I'm not alone breaking the rules. :) It does sound like you've figured out a way to keep the suspense extra intense.

Ellen - Thanks for the welcome! I'm rather fond of The Kidnapping of Kenzie Thorn. It's my very first (publishable) novel. I hope you enjoy it if you check it out.

Hannah - my sister's name is Hannah. :) I do have another book coming out. VANISHING ACT hits shelves in August, and if you read KENZIE first, you'll notice some overlapping characters. :) I am also working my third, which will likely come out in about a year.

Thanks to all for your comments and kind welcome!

I only read the last page before it really is the last page if I don't like the book. At times, the idea of the story gets me enough that I have to know the end, but if the writing is good, I savor the book and save the best to last.
Liz, we're sooooo glad to have you here.

I'm a purist...start at the front and read my way to the end. But, my daughter always turns to the last page first.

Welcome, Liz! Glad you're part of the group.

Sasafras, thanks for visiting today. Come back, okay? We love our visitors and encourage your comments, which makes blogging more fun.

Hi Ellen and Hannah!

Lol that's funny that we're both Hannah!

I read the excerpt of Kenzie's story yesterday on my Kindle and it REALLY made me want to buy it. I think it might be my next book after I finish The Substitute Bride.
