Bayou Judgement Interview

Today we're welcoming Felicia Trahan, the heroine of Bayou Judgment, May 2008. Wow, you've just had quite an adventure.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to be in the midst of such suspense.

Well, I never intended to be in any such situation, no. Looking back, I probably should have asked and accepted help more than I did, but I so wanted to be independent. After what I've been through, I've sure learned my lesson.

2. So, during the book you met Spencer Bertrand. Tell us a bit about him. What was your first impression? When did you know it was love?

Spence is an amazing man. He was my "boss" at the crisis hotline center, but he's a preacher as well. Spence is . . . well, he's a bit unconventional, but his faith is so strong it reaches out and touches people deep inside. I think, deep down, I knew I loved him from the moment he helped me deal with the loss of my best friend. But I sure fought that for some time, yes? LOL

3. What strengths/skills do you have? What is your greatest weakness?

My greatest weakness is tending to believe the best about everyone, even when a person is proven to not be what they seem. My strengths and skills? Hmmm. Guess that would be that I believe God is always with us, and I try to share that with everyone I meet.

4. What scares you?

Not being able to care for myself again. After spending most of my life in a wheelchair, and now having experienced the liberation and freedom from walking on my own, going back to the way I was terrifies me.

5. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

That I'd had the surgeries a LOT earlier in my life--that I'd have stood up for myself and what I wanted.

6. Where are you in your faith at the start of your story?

Oh, I've always loved Jesus and been His follower, but I just wanted to do so much on my own.

7. Where are you in your faith at the end of the story?

I hope it shows that I'm stronger in faith, relying on God for direction before jumping out on my own, yes?

8. You've got a scripture at the beginning of the story. Tell us why this scripture is significant.

This particular Scripture applies more to Spence's faith than mine. So many people today, even Christians, are so quick to judge others. But we all must trust in God, because ONLY HE knows the heart of a man.

9. If you could be a dessert what would you be and why?

Taffy--because I'm sweet, can be pulled in a lot of different directions, but when my focus is on Him, I always come back together.

Thank you so much Felicia for joining us today. I'm looking forward to reading Bayou Judgement.

Please join us next week as we have the heroine from Lenora Worth's book A Face in the Shadows telling us about her adventures.

Robin,
Thanks ever so much for introducing us to your heroine and hero. What was it like writing about someone who'd been in a wheelchair? What was the inspiration?

Thanks, Pamela.

My inspiration was my niece, Krystina, who has CP. No, she's never been in a wheelchair, but she did undergo numerous surgeries on her legs and hand. She inspired me with her gentle spirit and strong faith that I just knew I had to create a character with those characteristics. I'm very pleased with how Felicia turned out. When I created her in book one of the series (Bayou Justice) I really had no intention of bringing her to the forefront and having her as a heroine, but during the writing of book 2 (Bayou Corruption) I realized I needed to tell her story and give her a happy ending (since I so messed with her life at the end of book 2--let's just say I owed her big time! LOL) I'm really pleased with the story. And yes, I fell a little in love with Spence while writing this book. Once he told me about his past and why he felt the way he did, my heart ached for him. I just HAD to give him a heroine as special as Felicia.

I'm looking forward to reading this. I went to Walmart on Saturday, but they hadn't stocked the May books yet. I joined the book club (so I could have something to introduce before Terri posted the interview) but I think probably June will be the first supply I get in time. Are you already planning the interview for next month's heroine? It's wonderful writing for LIS!

Thanks, girl. Yep, Terri's already "interviewed" Tara LeBlanc for next month! :D
